Figures follow the published fine schedule (Ministerial Resolution No. 178 of 2017). "Decided by court" means the amount is set by a judge, not a fixed fine.

Dubai Traffic Fines

Dubai follows the federal fine schedule, with one important local difference: a 20 km/h radar buffer. Speed cameras in Dubai trigger at the posted limit plus 21 km/h — but the fine is calculated from the posted limit, not the trigger speed. So at 81 km/h in a 60 zone you are fined for exceeding the limit by 21–30 km/h (AED 600). Dubai also applies its own impound-release fees under Dubai Decree No. 30 of 2023 — up to AED 50,000 for serious offences like red-light jumping or dangerous driving. Use the finder above and search "speeding" to see every band.

Abu Dhabi Traffic Fines

Abu Dhabi uses the same federal schedule but enforces a strict zero-tolerance policy on speed: radars trigger at just 1 km/h over the posted limit, a rule in force since August 2018. There is no buffer to rely on, so the AED 300 band for "up to 20 km/h over" applies from the very first kilometre. Abu Dhabi Police also administers the Traffic Points Programme that governs black-point suspensions across the emirate — see the black points section below.

Sharjah Traffic Fines

Sharjah applies the federal schedule with a 20 km/h speed buffer like Dubai. Sharjah has also run periodic fine-discount campaigns in the past — these are announced by the authorities and change over time, so check the official portals for any current campaign before paying. Parking and minor violations in Sharjah follow the same published amounts shown in the finder above.

UAE Black Points System

Black points are penalty points recorded against your driving licence for serious violations — the more dangerous the offence, the more points, up to 24 points within a rolling 12-month period. Points expire 12 months after the violation date. Reaching 24 points for the first time means your licence is suspended for 3 months — or you can pay AED 2,400 and complete a one-day rehabilitation course under the Traffic Points Programme. A second 24-point accumulation within a year brings a 6-month suspension plus the course; a third brings a 1-year suspension with mandatory retraining and a re-test at an authorised driving school. Drivers holding 8–23 points may take a voluntary AED 800 course to deduct 8 points. If someone else was driving your car, points may be transferable to the actual driver — confirm the current procedure with the police or RTA.

Frequently asked questions

How can I check my traffic fines in the UAE?
Use only the official portals: the RTA website or app (rta.ae), Dubai Police (dubaipolice.gov.ae), the MOI portal (moi.gov.ae), Emirates Vehicle Gate (evg.ae), or TAMM for Abu Dhabi (tamm.abudhabi). This page lists official fine amounts only and cannot show your personal fines.
What are black points in the UAE?
Black points are penalty points recorded against your driving licence for serious traffic violations. More dangerous offences carry more points, up to 24 points within a rolling 12-month period.
What happens at 24 black points?
First time: your licence is suspended for 3 months, or you can pay AED 2,400 and complete a one-day rehabilitation course. A second accumulation within a year brings a 6-month suspension plus the course; a third brings a 1-year suspension with mandatory retraining and a re-test.
How much is the speeding fine in Dubai?
From AED 300 for exceeding the limit by up to 20 km/h, up to AED 3,000 plus 23 black points and 60 days' impoundment for exceeding it by more than 80 km/h. Dubai cameras allow a 20 km/h buffer, but the fine is calculated from the posted limit.
Is there a speed tolerance buffer in Dubai?
Yes — Dubai speed cameras trigger at the posted limit plus 21 km/h. Abu Dhabi, by contrast, enforces zero tolerance: radars trigger at 1 km/h over the posted limit.
How can I reduce my black points?
Points expire 12 months after the violation date. Drivers with 8–23 points may take a voluntary AED 800 course to deduct 8 points. The MOI also occasionally runs an Accident-Free Day campaign — check current announcements.
Do tourists get traffic fines in the UAE?
Yes. Fines on rental cars are passed on to the renter by the rental company, usually with an admin fee. The same fine schedule applies to everyone on UAE roads.
Are there discounts on UAE traffic fines?
The authorities occasionally announce limited-time discount campaigns — Sharjah and Dubai have done so in the past. These change over time, so check the official portals for any current campaign before paying.
Is parking free in Dubai on Friday?
No. In Dubai, paid parking applies Monday to Saturday; parking is free on Sundays and public holidays.
Where do these fine amounts come from?
From the published schedule in UAE Ministerial Resolution No. 178 of 2017, which remains applicable under the current framework law, Federal Decree-Law No. 14 of 2024. This is an unofficial guide — always verify on an official portal.
