How the age calculator works

Your exact age is the time between two dates: your date of birth and today (or any “as of” date you choose). This age calculator counts full years first, then the remaining full months, then the remaining days — the same way official documents do. The tricky part is months: they are 28 to 31 days long, and leap years add a February 29 every four years. A naive calculator that treats every month as 30 days drifts by several days over a lifetime; this one borrows days from the actual previous month, so the result is exact.

More than just years

Knowing you are “27 years old” is rarely the whole story. Forms and eligibility rules sometimes ask for age in months; curious minds want the total days lived; and the weekday you were born on is a classic conversation starter. That is why the calculator also shows total months, weeks, days, hours and minutes, plus your birth weekday and Western zodiac sign — all computed instantly from the same date.

Birthdays and the Feb 29 edge case

The next-birthday countdown tells you how many days remain until your next birthday, which weekday it falls on, and which age you will turn. If you were born on February 29, the calculator celebrates on February 28 in non-leap years — the most widely used convention.

How to calculate age manually

You can work out anyone's exact age on paper in three steps. Say someone was born on 15 June 2000 and today is 4 October 2026: 1) Subtract the years: 2026 − 2000 = 26. 2) Subtract the months: 10 − 6 = 4. 3) Subtract the days: 4 − 15 is negative, so borrow the length of the previous month (September has 30 days): 4 + 30 − 15 = 19 days, and subtract one month. Result: 26 years, 3 months, 19 days. The borrowing step is where most people — and sloppy calculators — go wrong, because months are 28 to 31 days long. If the month subtraction goes negative, subtract one year and add 12 months instead.

Popular uses

People use an age calculator for job and visa forms that ask for age on a specific date, school admission cutoffs, retirement planning, insurance quotes, and — honestly — just for fun. Whatever the reason, your date of birth stays on your device: the calculation runs entirely in your browser and nothing is uploaded or stored. Frequently asked questions

How is my exact age calculated?
Your age is the difference between your date of birth and today (or any date you choose), counted in full years, then remaining full months, then remaining days — accounting for different month lengths and leap years.
Why does my age differ between calculators?
Most differences come from month handling: a correct calculator borrows days from the previous month based on its actual length (28–31 days). Simpler tools that treat every month as 30 days give slightly wrong results.
What day of the week was I born on?
Enter your date of birth above and the calculator shows the exact weekday you were born on, along with your zodiac sign.
How do I calculate my age on a specific date?
Use the “Calculate age as of” field to pick any past or future date — useful for forms, eligibility checks, and retirement planning.
Is my date of birth stored anywhere?
No. The calculation happens entirely in your browser. Your date of birth is never uploaded, saved, or shared.
What is my zodiac sign?
Your Western zodiac sign is determined by your birth month and day — the calculator shows it automatically, e.g. someone born on 15 June is a Gemini.
How old am I in days?
Multiply your full years by 365, add one day for each leap year you have lived through, then add the days since your last birthday. The calculator above does this exactly and shows your total days lived.
How old am I in seconds?
Multiply your total days lived by 86,400 (the number of seconds in a day). A 25-year-old has lived roughly 788 million seconds. The calculator shows your exact total seconds above.
